Grove City rolls past Allegheny

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened the dual meet portion of the 2012-13 season Saturday afternoon with a 159-135 triumph over visiting Allegheny in non-conference action at the James E. Longnecker Pool.

Three Grove City swimmers posted two individual victories in the meet. Junior Kaley Hess (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) swept the breaststroke and senior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) swept the butterfly. Hess won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 70.71 seconds and then took the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.93. Riesmeyer won the 100 fly in 1:00.24 and took the 200 fly with a winning time of 2:13.61.

Senior Angelo Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) earned wins in both the 100 free (53.94) and 200 free (1:58.21).

Freshman Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won the 1650 with a time of 18:35.23 while sophomore Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) won the 100 backstroke (1:03.04). Sophomore Keegan Reed (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) posted the top time in the 200 individual medley (2:19.59).

Cassano, Hess, Riesmeyer and Palumbo opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:52.09. Cassano, sophomore Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled), senior Olivia Forish (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and senior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) recorded the top time of 1:40.98 in the 200 free relay.

The Wolverines will visit Saint Vincent next Saturday at 1 p.m. in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
