Grove City falls at CMU

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team dropped to 2-1 overall Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines dropped a 178-119 decision at Carnegie Mellon in a non-conference dual meet.

Senior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) captured two victories for Grove City in distance events. She opened the individual races by winning the 1000 in 10 minutes, 50.65 seconds. Ryan then won the 500 in 5:19.78. Senior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) won the 50 free in 24.93.

Freshman Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) swept the diving events for Grove City. She won 1-meter diving with 210.07 points and then won 3-meter competition with 226.35 points.

Grove City closed the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:41.68 as sophomore Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled), senior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), sophomore Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) and Ryan combined for the win.

Grove City will compete in a quad meet at Kenyon College next Saturday. Case Western and Gannon will also compete in the event.
