Grove City 3rd at Winter Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team is in third place after the first night of action at the Wolverines' own Winter Invitational at the James E. Longnecker Pool. Grove City finished Friday night's action with 270 team points. Washington & Jefferson leads with 339 team points and Wheeling Jesuit is second with 305 points.

Freshman diver Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) posted the Wolverines' top finish of the night by taking second in 1-meter diving with 202.45 points.

Junior Sarah Nosal (Austin, Texas/Westwood) earned third in the 50 free with a time of 26.55 seconds while senior Mary McLachlan (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) took fourth in the 500 free in 5:30.94. Sophomore Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) placed fifth in the 500 (5:31.56).

Also for Grove City, freshman Rachel Shimrock (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) took fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:22.41).

Grove City's two 400 medley relay squads each recorded top-five finishes. The team of freshman Claudia Bennett (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), sophomore Emma Rudolf (Birchrunville, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), sophomore Liv Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and Nosal took fourth with a time of 4:23.35.

Freshman Ariana Smyth (Troy, Pa./Troy), freshman Ashley Meesuk (Millersville, Md./Calvary Baptist), senior Kaitlin Yeatts (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) and McLachlan placed fifth in 4:26.06.

Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m.
