Grove City takes 3rd at Winter Invitational
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team took third out of six teams at the 16th annual Grove City Winter Invitational Saturday night as the Wolverines finished the two-day event with 847 team points. Washington & Jefferson won the team title with 1,148 points and Wheeling Jesuit took second with 861 points.
Sophomore Emma Rudolf (Birchrunville, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) helped lead Grove City by posting three runner-up finishes. She took second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4 minutes, 58.84 seconds. She then earned second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.66) and captured second in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.40).
Freshman diver Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) finished second in 3-meter diving with 205.70 points while sophomore Liv Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) took second in the 200 butterfly (2:19.28). Beckner also took third in the 1650 in 19:05.53. Senior Mary McLachlan (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) earned third in the 200 free (2:04.52).
Grove City also took third in the 400 and 800 free relays. Beckner, McLachlan, senior Kaitlin Yeatts (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) and junior Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) earned third in the 800 free relay with a time of 8:36.07. Rudolf, McLachland, Yeatts and junior Sarah Nosal (Austin, Texas/Westwood) closed the meet by finished third in the 400 free relay (3:52.17).
Sophomore Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) finished fourth in both the 1650 (19:09.58) and 200 free (2:05.75). Nosal took fourth in the 100 free (57.72) and freshman Ashley Meesuk (Millersville, Md./Calvary Baptist) placed fourth in both breaststroke events. She posted a time of 1:13.36 in the 100 breaststroke and then recorded a time of 2:38.82 in the 200 breaststroke.
Grove City returns to action January 12 with a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet at W&J.
