Grove City whips Allegheny, Wooster

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team improved to 7-3 overall Saturday afternoon by sweeping Allegheny and Wooster in a non-conference double dual meet at Allegheny's David Wise Center. Grove City downed Wooster 171-114 and picked up a 177-119 victory over Allegheny.

Three Grove City swimmers recorded multiple wins Saturday. Senior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) swept the sprint events for Grove City, winning the 50, 100 and 200 free. She won the 50 free in 24.29 seconds, took the 100 free (53.17) and also prevailed in the 200 free (1:56.83).

Senior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) won the 400 individual medley (4:44.71) and the 1000 (10:53.05). Meanwhile, sophomore Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) swept the backstroke. She won the 100 backtroke in 1:01.63 and the 200 backstroke in 2:13.30.

Junior Kaley Hess (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.48. Hess, Cassano, Palumbo and senior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay in 4:06.50.

Grove City will host Westminster Thursday night in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet at 6 p.m.
