Wolverines top Bethany
GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City
College women’s swimming and diving team closed the 2012-13 regular season
Saturday afternoon with a 119-89 victory over visiting Bethany in a Presidents’
Athletic Conference dual meet at the James E. Longnecker Pool.
Wolverine competitors posted the top
time or score in 11 events Saturday. Junior Janele Baglia (Grove City, Pa./Grove
City) and sophomore Emma Rudolf (Birchrunville, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) each
recorded two swimming wins while freshman Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview,
Pa./Fairview) swept both diving events.
Baglia won the 100 free in 56.58
seconds and then posted a winning time of 2:03.57 in the 200 free. Rudolf,
meanwhile, took the 400 individual medley in 4:57.03 and also won the 100
breaststroke (1:13.16). She recorded the top time in the 200 breaststroke
(2:37.34) on an exhibition basis.
Eckendorf won 1-meter diving with
181.55 points and captured 3-meter competition with a score of 222.40.
Senior Mary McLachlan (Grove City,
Pa./Grove City) won the 500 free in 5:35.32. She also anchored the Wolverines’
victorious 200 medley relay, which also included junior Kristi Baur (North
Wales, Pa./North Penn), senior Michelle Shimrock (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby
South) and sophomore Elizabeth Funk (Leonardtown, Md./King’s Christian).
Sophomore Lauren Burrows (Canton,
Ohio/GlenOak) posted the fast time in the 200 backstroke (2:29.41) and sophomore
Liv Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) did likewise in the 1650
(19:08.16).
