Four earn All-America honors at NCAA Championships

SHENANDOAH, Texas -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team began action at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships Wednesday by producing four NCAA All-Americans at the Conroe Natatorium.

Grove City's 200 medley relay squad concluded Wednesday night's session by taking 11th place overall. Sophomore Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), senior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), junior Kaley Hess (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) and senior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) recorded a time of 1 minute, 46.14 seconds. That time is just .02 seconds off the school record.

Cassano and Hess became the program's 12th and 13th all-time NCAA All-Americans. Ryan now owns 13 All-America citations and Riesmeyer is a 12-time All-American.

By taking 11th, Grove City earned 12 team points. The Wolverines are currently 19th in the team standings after the first night of action in the four-day meet. Kenyon's entry won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.60. All-America honors are presented to those who finish in the top 16.

In Wednesday's preliminaries, senior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) took 19th in the 50 free with a time of 23.70 seconds and Ryan placed 20th in the 200 individual medley (2:07.25).

Thursday's action begins at 11 a.m. EDT with preliminaries. The finals will start at 7 p.m. EDT.
