Grove City moves into ninth at NCAA Championships

SHENANDOAH, Texas -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team moved into ninth place at the NCAA Division III Championships Friday night at Conroe ISD Natatorium. The Wolverines now have 79 team points and are tied for ninth place with Gustavus Adolphus. Defending national champion Emory leads the team standings with 428.5 points.

Grove City highlighted Friday's sessions by taking eighth in the 800 free relay. The quartet of senior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College), freshman Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), senior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and senior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) posted a school-record time of 7 minutes, 28.76 seconds. Those four swimmers earn All-America honors by finishing eighth nationally.

In Friday's preliminaries, Riesmeyer took 22nd in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.60 while sophomore Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) placed 34th in the 100 backstroke (58.67).

Bilko became the 15th all-time All-American in program history. Palumbo earned her 19th career All-America citation while Riesmeyer captured her 16th All-America honor. Ryan is now a 15-time NCAA All-American.

Saturday's preliminaries begin at 11 a.m. The finals are at 7 p.m. Eastern.
