Grove City opens season at CUP

CLARION, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened the 2013-14 season Saturday by competing in Clarion University's season-opening invitational. Grove City accumulated 187 team points and Clarion had 145.

Freshman Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe) helped lead the Wolverines by capturing three victories Saturday. She won the 200 free in 2 minutes, 2.11 seconds, captured the 500 free in 5:23.66 and won the 1650 with a winning time of 18:22.95.

Junior Liv Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) won the 200 butterfly in 2:28.69 while freshman Kristi Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) captured the 200 backstroke in 2:23.20. Junior Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) prevailed in the 200 individual medley (2:21.76).

Grove City will open its dual meet schedule next Saturday at Allegheny. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
