Grove City humbles Allegheny
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened its 2013-14 dual meet schedule Saturday by earning a 150-139 victory over host Allegheny.
Three Grove City swimmers earned multiple victories Saturday. Senior Kaley Hess (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) swept the breaststroke, taking the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 11.35 seconds and then winning the 200 breaststroke in 2:38.43
Junior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) won the 100 free in 55.79 and captured the 200 free with a time of 2:00.91. Freshman Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe) won the 500 (5:18.26) and the 1000 (10:47.92).
Freshman Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) won the 50 free (25.32) while junior Keegan Reed (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.32.
Cassano, Hess, Gallant and junior Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:54.69. Melnik joined junior Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson), freshman Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and senior Janele Baglia (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) that posted the top time (1:43.43) in the 200 free relay.
Smith also recorded the top time in the 400 individual medley (4:51.44) on an exhibition basis.
Grove City will visit Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Saint Vincent next Saturday at 1 p.m.
