Grove City falls in home opener
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened the 2013-14 home schedule Saturday afternoon by hosting Carnegie Mellon and Rochester in a non-conference tri-meet at James E. Longnecker Pool. Carnegie Mellon downed Grove City 220-80 and Rochester claimed a 166-134 win over the Wolverines.
Freshman Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe) earned Grove City's lone win Saturday by taking the 1000 in 10 minutes, 41.19 seconds. Smith edged sophomore Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), who finished second in the 1000 with a time of 10:43.23.
Bilko also took second in the 500 (5:15.73) while Smith took second place in the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.90.
Sophomore Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) placed second in 1-meter diving with 252.15 points.
Grove City (2-2) hosts Wheeling Jesuit next Saturday at 1 p.m.
