Grove City tops Wheeling Jesuit

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team improved to 3-2 overall Saturday afternoon with a 166-104 victory over visiting Wheeling Jesuit in a non-conference dual meet at the James E. Longnecker Pool.

Eight different Wolverine performers earned individual victories for Grove City. Freshman Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy) captured two events to help lead the Wolverines. She won the 200 free in 1 minute, 56.75 seconds, then took the 500 in 5:09.03.

Junior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) took the 100 backstroke in 1:01.38 while senior Kaley Hess (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) took the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.46.

Freshman Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) won the 50 free (25.53) while classmate Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) captured the 100 free in 54.72 seconds.

Also for Grove City, freshman Amanda Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Homeschooled) won the 100 butterfly (1:01.49) and sophomore Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) took the 200 fly in 2:13.13.

Sophomore Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) won 1-meter diving with 235.75 points.

Jank, Cassano, Hess and freshman Madison Van Dyke (Fleming Island, Fla./Fleming Island) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:53.43. Gallant, Jank, junior Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled) and junior Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) closed the meet by posting the top time in the 200 free relay (1:40.86) on an exhibition basis.

Grove City will compete in the Case Western Quad next Saturday afternoon.
