Grove City competes at Case Quad

CLEVELAND -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team went 1-2 Saturday afternoon at the Case Western Quad, held at the Veale Center. Grove City earned a 189-110 win over Case Western. Kenyon decisioned Grove City 202-96 and Gannon pulled out a 164-126 win over the Wolverines.

Sophomore diver Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) posted a pair of runner-up finishes for Grove City. She took second in 1-meter diving with 230.70 points and then finished second in 3-meter competition with 229.85 points.

Sophomore Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and freshman Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe) both recorded runner-up finishes to help lead Grove City in the swimming events. Bilko placed second in the 1000 with a time of 10 minutes, 46.05 seconds and Smith earned second in the 200 free in 1:57.82.

Bilko also took third in the 500 (5:22.95) and fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:16.81).

Grove City closed the meet by taking third in the 200 free relay as the team of freshman Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), junior Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled), junior Keegan Reed (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) and freshman Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) posted a time of 1:40.73.

Smith finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.63) and junior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.64).

Grove City returns to action December 5-7 at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational.
