Grove City rallies to defeat Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team won five of the final six events to rally from an early deficit and earn a 155-133 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Westminster on Thursday night at the Westminster Natatorium.
Sophomore Megan Bilko (Canonsburg,Pa./Canon-McMillan) took part in four victories for the Wolverines and set a pool record in the 1000 freestyle while junior Keegan Reed (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan), sophomore Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) and freshman Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each contributed to a pair of victories.
Bilko cruised to victory in the 1000 freestyle, winning by two-and-a-half lengths of the pool in a time of 10:30.68 and breaking the previous pool record by more than five seconds. In addition, her time is the seventh fastest time posted among NCAA Division III swimmers this year.
Bilko also added wins in the 200 butterfly (2:08.99) and 500 freestyle (5:18.07) before teaming with Jank, junior Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) and junior Amy Melnick (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled) to win the meet-clinching 400 freestyle relay (3:43.40).
Reed earned victories in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.95) and the 200 individual medley (2:14.94) while Eckendorf won both the 1-meter (231.70) and 3-meter (219.15) diving events.
Jank added an individual win in the 100 freestyle (55.73) while junior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) took the 100 backstroke (1:01.09).
Grove City will take part in two different meets on Saturday, splitting their squad to travel to both the University of Pittsburgh Quad Meet and PAC-foe Bethany. Both meets are set to start at 1 p.m.
