Wolverines compete at Kenyon Last Chance

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Members of the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team competed at the Kenyon College Swimming and Diving Last Chance Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The 800 freestyle relay squad, comprised of freshman Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy), sophomore Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), junior Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) and junior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), posted the Wolverines' best showing of the day, recording a B-cut time of 7:40.95 to top their previous best time by 1.28 seconds.

Cassano, senior Kaley Hess (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico), Bilko and Baker teamed to drop 0.51 seconds off the Wolverines' 400 medley relay season-best mark with a time of 3:55.58.

Cassano, Baker, Bilko and freshman Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) posted a time of 3:31.43 in the 400 freestyle relay while Baker, Cassano, senior Janele Baglia (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and freshman Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) completed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.80.

Cassano, Hess, junior Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled) and Gallant swam a 1:48.55 in the 200 medley relay.

Notable individual swims included a season-best time of 54.83 by Baglia in the 100 freestyle and a career-best 1:54.35 for Cassano in the 200 freestyle.

Grove City awaits the announcement of invitations to the 2014 NCAA Division III Championships, which will take place March 19-22 in Indianapolis, Ind.
