Grove City opens at CUP Fall Classic

CLARION, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened the 2014-15 season Saturday afternoon by competing in the Clarion University Fall Classic. The Wolverines finished with 121 team points while Clarion had 197 team points.

Two Grove City swimmers earned multiple individual victories Saturday. Junior Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won the 1650 free in 18 minutes, 22.11 seconds and then took first in the 400 individual medley (4:54.88).

Sophomore Amanda Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Homeschooled) swept the butterfly events. She won the 100 fly in 1:02.47 and captured the 200 butterfly in 2:22.08.

Sophomore Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) won the 100 free (56.38) while classmate Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe) captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.39. Senior Keegan Reed (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) took first in the 500 free (5:34.44).

Bilko, Jank, senior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and senior Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled) closed the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:44.80.

Grove City opens its dual meet schedule October 25 against visiting Allegheny.
