Grove City charges past Saint Vincent
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Saturday with a 152-118 victory over visiting Saint Vincent at the James E. Longnecker Pool.
Three Grove City performers earned multiple victories Saturday. Junior diver Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) swept both 1- and 3-meter competition. She won 1-meter diving with 248.42 points and also took 3-meter competition with 230.10 points.
Junior Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won the 200 free in 1 minute, 57.98 seconds and then took the 200 butterfly in 2:12.77. She also posted the top time in the 100 fly (1:01.47) on an exhibition basis. Sophomore Maddie Van Dyke (Fleming Island, Fla./Fleming Island) swept the backstroke, taking the 100 backstroke in 1:04.19 and then posting a winning time of 2:19.14 in the 200 backstroke.
Sophomore Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.86 and recorded an exhibition time of 2:33.06 in the 200 breaststroke. Sophomore Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) won the 50 free (25.26) and sophomore Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) captured the 100 free (55.16).
Van Dyke, Gallant, senior Keegan Reed (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) and sophomore Amanda Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Homeschooled) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:54.91. Van Dyke, Bilko, Jank and senior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) closed the meet with the top time in the 400 free relay, 3:42.44.
Reed posted the top time in both the 200 individual medley (2:16.33) and the 500 free (5:29.16).
Grove City will face Carnegie Mellon and Rochester next Saturday in a tri-meet at CMU.
