Grove City defeats Case Western, falls to Gannon

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team split a double-dual meet with Case Western and Gannon on Saturday afternoon at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool, defeating the Spartans 170-127 and falling to the NCAA Division II Golden Knights 170-124 in non-conference action.

Junior Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) and sophomore Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy) led the way for the Wolverines (4-3) by recording two event victories each. Eckendorf swept the diving events, scoring a 237.70 to take the 3-meter board before posting a 245.20 on the 3-meter. Smith edged out freshman teammate Sarah Blodgett (Bidwell, Ohio/River Valley) in the 1000 free (11:00.11) before earning the win in the 500 free in 5:24.58.

Senior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) earned the overall win in the 200 back (2:14.60) and earned a win over Case Western by taking second in the 100 back (1:01.86). Blodgett also finished second to Smith in the 500 (5:28.80) and also earned a win over the Spartans by taking third in the 200 fly (2:20.24).

Sophomore Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) finished second overall in the 50 free with a time of 25.34 while sophomore Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) earned a win over Case with a fourth-place time of 55.23 in the 100 free. Senior Keegan Reed also added a win over Case with a second-place overall finish in the 400 IM (4:50.70).

Cassano, Reed, Jank and Gallant closed the day with a second-place overall finish in the 200 free relay (1:41.11).

Grove City returns to action December 4-6 when they travel to Gambier, Ohio, for the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational.
