Grove City competes at Kenyon
GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team competed in the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational Thursday-Saturday and accumulated 493 points during the three-day event. Grove City placed seventh in the meet. The University of Pennsylvania won the event with 2,635 points.
Junior diver Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) led Grove City's effort by posting a pair of top five finishes in diving. She took third in 1-meter diving with 414.80 points and then placed fourth on the 3-meter board with 374.10 points. Eckenforf qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in 1-meter diving with her performance.
Sophomore Grace Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) earned sixth in 3-meter diving with 331.75 points and junior Jessica Fortney (Mayville, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake Central) earned eighth on the high board with 283.30 points.
Grove City's 200 free relay quartet of senior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), senior Keegan Reed (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan), sophomore Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and sophomore Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) placed ninth with a time of 1 minute, 38.16 seconds.
Cassano, sophomore Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe), sophomore Amanda Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Homeschooled) and Gallant combined for a 14th-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:52.57). Cassano, senior Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled), Reed and Jank recorded a time of 3:37.52 in the 400 free relay, good for 15th place.
Cassano, Reed, Hutzelmann and Jank took 17th in the 400 medley relay (4:01.87).
Smith earned 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.28) while Jank placed 18th in the 100 free (53.68). Jank also took 19th in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.09 while Reed earned 19th in the 200 breast (2:33.28).
Grove City returns to action January 10 with a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet at Washington & Jefferson.
