Grove City tied for first
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team owns a share of first place after the opening night of action at the three-day Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships/James E. Longnecker Invitational. The Wolverines earned 228 team points Thursday night. Westminster also accumulated 228 team points.
Grove City swimmers earned two victories Thursday night. Senior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) won the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes, 8.38 seconds while sophomore Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy) captured the 500 free in 5:02.93.
Senior Keegan Reed (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) captured second place in the 200 IM (2:09.39) while sophomore Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) earned second in the 50 free (24.09).
Freshman Sarah Blodgett (Bidwell, Ohio/River Valley) placed third in the 500 free (5:12.04) while senior Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) earned fourth in the 50 (24.40). Junior Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) took fourth in 3-meter diving with 452.50 points.
Junior Rachel Shimrock (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) finished fifth in the 500 (5:17.72) while sophomore Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) earned fifth in the 50 free (24.43).
Friday's preliminaries start at 10 a.m. The finals begin at 6 p.m.
