800 Free Relay invited to NCAA Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team's 800 free relay of senior Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), senior Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson), sophomore Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy) and sophomore Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) have received an invitation to participate in the 2015 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships, to be held March 18-21 at the Conroe Independent School District Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.

The Wolverines are seeded 15th in the event with an entry time of 7 minutes, 38.39 seconds, recorded at the Kenyon Fast Chance Invitational on February 21.

As a relay qualifier, Grove City's quartet will also be permitted to swim in the 200 free relay (1:37.04), the 400 free relay (3:31.62), the 200 medley relay (1:48.88) and 400 medley relay (3:57.65) throughout the week. In addition, Smith, as an NCAA provisional qualifier during the season in the 400 individual medley (4:32.43) and the 1650 free (17:27.11), will be permitted to swim those events and is seeded 25th in both.

This marks the sixth-straight year that the Wolverines, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Dave Fritz, will be represented in the women's field at the championships.

Baker, Cassano and Jank are all returning NCAA All-Americans from last year's 800 free relay squad that finished 14th. In 2013, Baker earned two All-America citations as a member of Grove City's 200 free and 400 free relays while Cassano also earned a pair of All-America honors in the 200 medley and 400 medley relays.
