Jank earns CoSIDA Academic All-America

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College junior swimming and water polo standout Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) earned Third Team Academic All-America Division III At-Large honors Tuesday from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A two-time First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, Jank led the Grove City women's water polo team with 44 goals and 55 steals this season. She earned First Team All-Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III and First Team CWPA All-Tournament honors in 2016.

In swimming and diving, Jank earned First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference this season after helping Grove City win its unprecedented eighth straight conference title. Jank competed as a member of Grove City's conference champion 800 free relay. She also helped Grove City's 200 and 400 free relay teams to runner-up finishes at the conference championships.

Jank is a two-time NCAA Division III All-American in swimming and diving. She earned All-America in the 800 free relay in both her freshman and sophomore seasons.

Jank has earned a 3.87 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in elementary education. She earned Collegiate Swim Coaches of America (CSCA) Scholar All-America honors as well as CWPA Scholar-Athlete honors. Jank has also been named to the Dean's List and the Presidents' Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Jank is the first Grove City water polo player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American. She is the third women's swimmer to achieve that honor, joining Peggy Whitbeck (2004) and Angela Palumbo (2013).

All-time, Grove City has produced 45 Academic All-Americans, including 26 since 2002. Those 26 Academic All-Americans have accounted for 34 total Academic All-America honors.

The 2015-16 academic year marks the fifth year that CoSIDA has based its Academic All-America program on individual divisions within college athletics. Currently, CoSIDA honors student-athletes in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, along with a "College" division that includes NAIA institutions and junior colleges.

Grove City is now part of District IV for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program. District IV includes all of the NCAA Division III programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.

The at-large program includes athletes from the following sports: fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling.
