Grove City downs Allegheny in dual-meet opener

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team earned wins in 10 of the 15 swimming events on the day en route to a 156-137 victory over Allegheny in their dual meet opener Saturday afternoon in Mellon Pool.

Junior Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy led the Wolverines with three individual victories while fellow juniors Amanda Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Homeschooled) and Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and freshman Megan Crutcher (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) each earned a pair of wins for Grove City on the day.

Smith won the 500 free in 5:23.10, the 1000 free in 11:15.12 and the 400 IM in 4:58.77 while Hutzelmann swept the butterfly events, taking the 100 fly in 1:01.06 and the 200 fly in 2:14.52. Jank claimed wins in the 100 free (56.82) and the 200 free (2:01.96) while finishing second in the 50 (26.23) while Crutcher swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 breast (1:10.07) and the 200 breast (2:34.48) by five seconds each.

Junior Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) edged Jank to claim victory in the 50 free in 25.51 seconds. Grove City opened the day with a win in the 200 medley relay, as junior Kristi Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), Crutcher, Hutzelmann and Gallant posted a time of 1:56.42.

The Wolverines (1-0) open their 2015-16 Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Saturday at 12 p.m. at Saint Vincent.
