Wolverines top Saint Vincent in league opener

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference action Saturday with a 136-126 victory at Saint Vincent.

Junior Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy) paced Grove City by earning three individual wins. She won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 11.10 seconds and then won the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.65. Smith closed the day by winning the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:18.37.

Junior Amanda Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Homeschooled) swept the butterfly for the Wolverines. She won the 100 in 1:01.33 and took the 200 butterfly in 2:16.43.

Senior Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won the 500 (5:15.74) while sophomore Sarah Blodgett (Bidwell, Ohio/River Valley) took first in the 1000 with a victorious time of 11:34.79.

Grove City opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:53.96. Junior Kristi Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), freshman Megan Crutcher (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), Hutzelmann and junior Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) combined for the win.

The Wolverines (2-0, 1-0) will host Carnegie Mellon and Rochester next Saturday at 1 p.m.
