Grove City falls to CMU, Rochester
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team dropped a double-dual meet to Carnegie Mellon and Rochester in its home opener on Saturday afternoon at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool. The Wolverines fell to CMU 212-85 and to Rochester 177-116.
Senior Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and junior Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy) each earned individual event victories for the Wolverines. Bilko took first overall in the 500 free in 5:17.50 while Smith posted a victorious time of 10:52.49 in the 1000 free. Bilko finished second in the 1000 in 10:55.34 for a 1-2 Wolverine finish.
Junior Amanda Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Homeschooled) took second in both butterfly events, earning a win over Rochester in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.47 and a win over CMU in the 200 fly with a 2:14.03. Junior Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) earned a win over CMU in the 200 free, taking second overall in 2:01.04.
Junior Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) took fourth in the 50 free (25.37) while Jank added a fifth-place finish in the 100 free (55.40). Smith was also fifth in both the 500 free (5:28.73) and the 400 individual medley (4:55.49) while freshman Megan Crutcher (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) took fifth in the 100 breast (1:10.45).
Junior Grace Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) added a pair of strong showings for the Wolverines in the diving portion of the meet on Friday night, taking fourth on both the 1-meter (204.22) and 3-meter (164.63) boards.
The Wolverines (2-2) host Wheeling Jesuit next Saturday at 1 p.m. During the meet, the Wolverines will honor their All-Americans and CSCAA Scholar All-Americans from the 2014-15 season.
