Wolverines tie Gannon, fall to Case Western

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team fell to host Case Western 171-126 and earned a 136-136 tie with NCAA Division II Gannon in a double-dual meet at Case Western's Veale Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

The tie with Gannon was Grove City's first in the 28-year history of the women's program.

Senior Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and juniors Amanda Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Homeschooled) and Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy) each earned a pair of individual victories to lead the Wolverines. Bilko earned a commanding victory in the 200 free with a time of one minute, 56.45 seconds before later rolling to the win in the 500 free with a 5:16.52. She also finished second overall and earned the win against Case Western in the 100 free with a time of 54.67 seconds.

Hutzelmann swept the butterfly events, out-touching the Spartans' Rebecca Pakradooni by .06 seconds with a time of 2:14.28 in the 200 fly before swimming a 59.73 to roll to victory in the 100 fly. Smith won the 1000 free in 11:02.73 before later winning the 200 breast in 2:34.25.

Freshman Megan Crutcher (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) also had a strong day of competition for the Wolverines. She earned a pair of victories over Case Western, finishing second with a 1:10.82 in the 100 breast after being out-touched at the wall and taking third in the 200 individual medley with a 2:21.61. She also added a second-place finish against Gannon, finishing third overall in the 200 breast with a time of 2:36.83.

Junior Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) added a runner-up finish against Case Western by taking third overall in the 200 free in 2:01.30 while sophomore Brynna Bartlett (Olive Branch, Miss./St. George's) was third overall and second against Gannon with a 5:38.22 showing in the 500 free.

Grove City returns to action December 3-5 when they compete in the Calvin College Winter Invitational.
