Wolverines take seventh at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Senior Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) added a third NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a third-place finish in the 500 free and junior Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy) also added a top-10 finish as the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team finished the Calvin College Winter Invitational in seventh place with 687 points at the Venema Aquatic Center on Saturday night.

Bilko recorded a time of 4 minutes, 59.12 seconds in the 500 freestyle, surpassing the NCAA "B" qualifying time of 5:01.13. On Thursday, Bilko recorded a "B" standard time in the 1650 free and then surpassed the standard in the 400 IM on Friday.

After finishing 17th in the 500 free with a time of 5:12.17, Smith took ninth in the 200 breaststroke with a season-best mark of 2:28.01. Freshman Megan Crutcher (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) took 16th in the 200 breast in 2:35.19 while senior Ashley Meesuk (Millersville, Md./Calvary Baptist) was just behind her in 17th with a time of 2:34.16.

Junior Amanda Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Homeschooled) led the Wolverines and reached the "B" finals in two events, taking 12th in the 100 fly in 59.42 seconds before finishing 16th in the 200 IM in 2:20.63 after swimming a 2:16.87 during prelims. Junior Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) placed 13th in the 100 free in 53.98 seconds while junior Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) added a top-20 finish by claiming 19th in the 100 free, just missing her career-best with a time of 56.37.

Jank, Hutzelmann, Smith and Bilko closed the competition with an eighth-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:40.62.

NCAA Division II Grand Valley State won the men's team competition with 2,035 team points.

Grove City will return to competition after Christmas break. The Wolverines host Washington & Jefferson on January 9 at 1 p.m. and will honor their 2016 class of Hall of Fame inductees during that meet.
