Grove City women cruise past W&J

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Five different swimmers won multiple events and the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team won 11 of the 14 swimming events in total as the Wolverines rolled to a 155-133 victory over Washington & Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Hall of Fame Day at the Longnecker Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), junior Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy), freshman Megan Crutcher (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), junior Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and junior Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) each earned multiple victories on the day.

Bilko won both the 200 free (2:00.45) and the 100 fly (1:01.38) while swimming the meet's fastest time in the 400 IM (4:49.32) in exhibition. She also teamed with Crutcher, Jank and Gallant to swim the fastest time of the day in the 200 free relay (1:43.11) in exhibition.

Smith was victorious in the 1650 free (18:48.88) and the 200 breast (2:35.84) while finishing second to Bilko in the 400 IM in 5:00.79 while Crutcher won the 100 breast in 1:11.34 and joined junior Kristi Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), Jank and Gallant for the meet-opening win in the 200 medley relay (1:55.52). Crutcher also finished second to Smith in the 200 breast with a time of 2:40.00.

Jank won the 100 free in 56.12 and finished second to Bilko in the 200 free (2:03.22) while Gallant claimed the 50 free win in 24.98 seconds.

Sophomore Sarah Blodgett (Bidwell, Ohio/River Valley) earned Grove City's remaining victory, taking the 500 free in 5:37.46. She also finished third in the 200 fly in 2:29.98, just behind sophomore Abby Noll (Rockville, Md./Rockville), who took second in 2:27.54.

Junior Maddie Van Dyke (Fleming Island, Fla./Fleming Island) finished second in both backstroke events while senior Ashley Meesuk (Millersville, Md./Calvary Baptist Church Academy finished third in both breaststroke events.

During the meet, the Wolverines honored the 2016 Class of the Grove City College Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame. The five inductees were: Joan (Reep '94) Karp, Amy (Scott '96) Campbell, Peggy (Whitbeck '04) Mahan, Caleb Courage '09 and Tim Whitbeck '09.

Grove City returns to action next weekend, hosting SUNY-Fredonia at noon. During that meet, Grove City will honor its three seniors: Bilko, Meesuk and senior diver Carolyn Eckendorf (Fairview, Pa./Fairview).
