Lady Wolverines Take Third at GCC Winter Invite

December 5, 1998--Freshman Sarah Erdos (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) qualified for nationals not once, not twice, but three times Friday and Saturday to lead the Lady Wolverines to a third place finish at the six-team Grove City College Winter Invitational.

Erdos beat the NCAA Division III provisional standard in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :24.46 (:24.89), the 100 free in :53.35 (:54.29) and the 200 free with a 1:57.17 (1:57.79).  She also swam on the winning 200 and 400 free relay teams with junior Brigitte Hanna (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell), sophomore Katie McCaslin (Lafayette Hill, PA/Phil-Mont Christian) and senior Britt Carpenter (North Wales, PA/North Penn).  The relays finished first in 1:43.15 and 3:47.50, respectively.

Carpenter and Hanna were a one-two knockout punch in the breaststroke.  Carpenter won the 100 breast in 1:11.44 , while Hanna took second in 1:12.13.  Hanna reversed the order in the 200 breast with a gold-medal time of 2:34.52.  Carpenter touched next in 2:37.26.

SUNY Geneseo won the meet with 617 points, followed by West Virginia Wesleyan (440), Grove City (396), Washington & Jefferson (285), Buffalo State (253) and Penn State Altoona (165).
