Meet Results

GROVE CITY, PA, December 4, 1999--Sarah Erdos (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) may have secured her second straight trip to nationals in just her fifth meet of the 1999-2000 season.

Erdos highlighted the opening night of the two-day Grove City College Swimming and Diving Winter Invitational with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of :53.83 in the 100-yard freestyle.  It would be just one of three first-place swims for Erdos at the annual mid-season event which included six schools in 1999.  Erdos also captured gold in the 50 free (:24.88) and 200 free (1:57.38).  Her 50 time missed qualifying by 79 one-hundreths of a second.

Brigitte Hanna (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) joined the gold rush with a pair of first-place swims.  Hanna won both the 200 breaststroke (2:32.78) and 100 breast (1:10.62) and added a sixth-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:24.09).   Erica Brandau (North Canton, OH/Hoover) contributed fourth-place efforts in the 100 backstroke (1:05.23) and 200 back (2:19.42).

The Lady Wolverine 200 freestyle relay team of Erdos, Hanna, Jessica Pytlik (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) and Katie McCaslin (Lafayette Hill, PA/Phil-Mont Christian) placed second (1:43.94), exactly one second off the winning pace.  Later, only 12 one-hundreths of a second separated Brandau, Hanna, Pytlik and Erdos from gold in the 200 medley relay (1:56.35).

The final team standings were: 1. SUNY-Geneseo - 609, 2. Washington & Jefferson - 424, 3. West Virginia Welseyan - 392, 4. Grove City - 272, 5. Buffalo State - 252, 6. Gannon - 242.
