Wolverines in 2nd at Longnecker Invitational
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team is in second place after the first night of competition at Grove City's two-day 11th annual James E. Longnecker Invitational. The Wolverines accumulated 242 team points Friday night and trail only Washington & Jefferson (308 points) in the team standings.
Grove City swept the top three spots in the 50 free Friday night, highlighting a successful evening in the pool. Freshman Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) won the 50 in 25.11 seconds while senior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) placed second in 25.49 seconds. Freshman Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) completed the 1-2-3 sweep by taking third in 25.65 seconds.
Page, Baur, Keefer and freshman Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) opened the meet by earning runner-up honors in the 200 free relay (1:41.85). Bargery, Baur, Page and sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) closed Friday's action by capturing second place in the 400 medley relay (4:12.04).
Bargery also took second in the 200 individual medley (2:17.57).
Saturday's first session will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday night's action will begin at 6 p.m.
