Grove City maintains 2nd
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team remains in second place after the second night of competition in the 18th annual Grove City Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships. The Wolverines accumulated 433 team points through the end of Friday night's action. Washington & Jefferson leads with 498 points while Westminster is in third with 402 points.
Grove City concluded Friday night's finals by winning the 800 free relay. Senior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell), freshman Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and freshman Sarah Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) combined for a victorious time of 7 minutes, 58.02 seconds.
Page and Thompson also earned individual wins Friday night for Grove City. Page won the 200 free in 1:57.98 while Thompson took the 400 individual medley in 4:41.03. Thompson also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100 backstroke with a third-place time of 59.98 seconds.
Baur took second in the 100 butterfly (59.55) while freshman Sarah Bargery (Springfield, Va./Homeschooled) earned runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.21). Thompson, Bargery, Keefer and sophomore Kiersen Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) opened Friday's finals by earning second in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.20.
Keefer also earned third in the 200 free (1:57.98) while junior Rebecca Smiddy (Miami, Fla./Homeschooled) touched fourth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:50.13.
Saturday's preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. The finals are scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
