Grove City leads after first day of PAC play 

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's tennis team is in first place after the first day of action at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at Pennbriar Athletic Club.

Grove City has 34 team points, six ahead of second-place Waynesburg. The Lady Wolverines, who have won 16 consecutive PAC championships, will have a representative in eight of Saturday's nine final-round matches.

At first singles, senior Allison Atwood (Warren, Pa./Warren) looks to secure her second straight title at first singles after advancing to the finals with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Westminster's Rosanne Friend. The top-seeded Atwood will meet Bethany's Katie Navarra in the finals.

Third singles entry Nicole Leasure (Washington, Pa./Trinity) also reached the finals with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Washington and Jefferson's Terra Naviglia. A junior, Leasure meets Waynesburg's Beth Conlon in the finals.

Sophomore Julie Crewson (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) is in the fourth singles final after a 6-4, 6-3 semifinal triumph over Waynesburg's Jennifer Knight. Crewson plays Westminster's Amy Caliguiri in the finals Saturday.

At fifth singles, freshman Lindsay Hosler (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Central) advanced with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Westminster's Amy Browell. Hosler meets Waynesburg's Rebecca Greene in the finals. Classmate Kelsey Nee (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) is in the finals at sixth singles following her 6-2, 6-4 victory over Sara Belsito of Westminster.

Nee will play Washington and Jefferson's Jennifer Lazorchak in the finals.

In doubles play, Atwood-Crewson, Leasure-Megan Hulick (Butler, Pa./Butler) and Hosler-Jenna Powell (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) all reached the finals. Atwood and Crewson will play in the first doubles final after defeating the W&J combo of Terra Naviglia and Jennifer Scott 6-0, 6-1. They will meet Navarra and Beth Wichrowski of Bethany.

At second doubles, Leasure and Hulick defeated Corey Cooper and Mindy Hall of Waynesburg 6-1, 6-3. Leasure-Hulick meet Westminster's Beth Grubbs-Amy Browell for the title Saturday. The Hosler-Powell tandem reached the third doubles final with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Belsito and Andrea Pastorius of Westminster.

They will play Conlon and Jennifer Knight of Waynesburg for the title.
