Grove City participates in ITA regional play

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Four Grove City College women's tennis players participated in first-day action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va.

In singles action, two Grove City players remain alive in the consolation bracket. Senior Allison Atwood (Warren, Pa./Warren) and junior Nicole Leasure (Washington, Pa./Trinity) will continue consolation play Sunday morning in the main draw. Meanwhile, sophomore Julie Crewson (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) advanced to the round of 16 in the "B" draw. 

Junior Megan Hulick (Butler, Pa./Butler) was eliminated in the consolation round.

Atwood dropped a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 opening-match decision but came back for an 8-2 consolation victory. She is in the third round of consolations, as is Leasure. Leasure also picked up an 8-2 consolation victory and advanced to the third round after receiving a bye. She fell into the consolation bracket after a straight-set loss in the main draw. Both will play at 8 a.m. Sunday. 

Crewson picked up a pair of wins Saturday in "B" draw action. She will continue winner's bracket action at 8 a.m. Sunday. 

In doubles action, the teams of Atwood-Crewson and Hulick-Leasure were both bounced from the main draw in the second round.
