Grove City faces Webster in NCAA Tournament

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's tennis team will make its second straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Thursday afternoon when the Wolverines face Webster University in a first-round match at the University of Chicago. The match will begin at 3 p.m. Eastern.

Both teams received automatic invitations to the NCAA Tournament by winning their respective conference championship. Grove City won the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship October 24 in Erie, Pa. The Wolverines posted an 11-2 record during the fall and then went 3-3 during the spring portion of the schedule.

Webster earned its first-ever berth in the national tournament by winning the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title April 24. The Gorlocks own an 11-4 overall record.

The winner of the Webster-Grove City match will face host Chicago Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. Chicago is the No. 3 overall seed in the 48-team tournament. Three other teams are competing on the other side of the regional. Calvin will face Baldwin-Wallace at 11 a.m. Eastern Thursday in the opening round. The winner of that match will face Washington (Mo.) Friday at 11 a.m.

The regional final will be held Saturday at Chicago.

Grove City earned its first-ever invitation to the NCAA Tournament last year. The Wolverines dropped a 5-4 decision to Agnes Scott (Ga.) in the opening round of the tournament May 8, 2009 at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va.
