Grove City nipped in NCAAs, 5-4

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Grove City College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Agnes Scott (Ga.) Friday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament at Washington & Lee University. Grove City (14-6) split the six singles matches but Agnes Scott claimed two of the three doubles matches in tiebreakers.

Grove City's doubles win came in the second flight as freshman Stacy Moon (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) teamed with sophomore Natalie Walten (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard Dale) for an 8-6 win over Danielle Patton and Tara Brinkman.

Moon also earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at third singles while freshman Reena Barnett (El Paso, Texas/Homeschooled) and sophomore Natalie Walten (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard Dale) won at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

Agnes Scott will face Emory University (Ga.) Saturday in the second round. For Grove City, it is the first trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history.
