Grove City falls in NCAAs

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Grove City College women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Albion Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament at DePauw University's Blackstock Courts. Albion (15-3) won each of the three doubles matches and then won two of the four finished singles bouts to secure the win.

Freshman Katie Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Homeschooled) and sophomore Jaclyn Walten (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) both earned singles wins for Grove City (13-3). Brown earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at fourth singles over Albion's Marissa Messenger. At sixth singles, Walten picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Albion's Megan Vylonis.

Albion advances to face Denison Friday in the regional semifinal. Grove City reached the regional semifinals in 2010 and also qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2009.
