Grove City defeats SVC to stay perfect in PAC play
LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's tennis team stayed perfect in Presidents' Athletic Conference play with an important 7-2 victory at Saint Vincent on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wolverines (5-2 overall, 4-0 PAC) swept the doubles competition before taking four of the six singles matches.
Senior Caroline McGuire (Shorewood, Wis./Dominican) and junior Karolina Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) teamed for an 8-2 win over the Bearcats (5-4) at first doubles before easily winning their respective matches at first and second singles.
Sophomore Linnea Peters (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and junior Leah Thomsen (Cary, N.C./Cary Christian) paired for an 8-5 win at second doubles while sophomore Julie Becker (Kingsport, Tenn./Homeschooled) and freshman Janine Jones (Cleveland, Ohio/Nordonia) earned an 8-2 victory at third doubles.
Peters would earn a 6-3, 6-1 victory at fourth singles while Thomsen pulled out a 7-6 first set victory before taking the second 6-1 in a sixth singles win.
Grove City returns to action Monday when they host Penn State Behrend in a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match.
