Wolverines fall to Westminster
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 6-3 decision to Presidents' Athletic Conference rival and defending champion Westminster on Thursday afternoon at the Walters-Zbell Tennis Courts.
The Wolverines (5-3 overall, 4-1 PAC) dropped two of three doubles matches before falling in four of six singles matches.
Senior Caroline McGuire (Shorewood, Wis./Dominican) was the lone Grove City player to win twice on the day, teaming with junior Karolina Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) for an 8-4 victory over the Titans (9-0, 6-0) at first doubles before rallying for a 4-6, 6-1, 10-3 tiebreaker victory over Sydney Sterner at first singles.
Junior Leah Thomsen (Cary, N.C./Cary Christian) rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Maria Pallone at sixth singles.
Grove City returns to action tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., hosting Thiel in a makeup conference match from earlier in the season.
