Wolverines fall to Mount Union in spring opener

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's tennis team opened the 2016 spring season with a 6-3 setback to Mount Union in non-conference play at the Walters-Zbell Tennis Courts on Wednesday evening.

Freshman Maggie Manchester (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) took part in two of Grove City's three wins on the day. She paired with senior Karolina Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) for a hard-fought 8-6 victory at first doubles before rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at second singles.

The Wolverine No. 2 doubles team of senior Leah Thomsen (Cary, N.C./Cary Christian) and sophomore Janine Jones (Northfield, Ohio/Nordonia) was also victorious, gritting out a 9-8 victory with a 9-7 tiebreaker win.

Both Lagerquist and sophomore Taylor Bradley (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) both took their respective matches at first and fourth singles to a 10-point tiebreaker before falling.

Grove City (9-7) returns to action next Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Carnegie Mellon.
