Grove City closes year against Allegheny

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's tennis team closed their 2015-16 season with a 9-0 loss to Allegheny on Tuesday afternoon at the Walters-Zbell Courts.

The Wolverines (9-11) battled the Gators (6-10) tightly through the three doubles matches, as sophomore Taylor Bradley (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) and junior Julie Becker (Kingsport, Tenn./Homeschooled) narrowly lost 9-7 at third doubles. Meanwhile, seniors Karolina Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Leah Thomsen (Cary, N.C./Cary Christian), playing in their final collegiate match, left their typical doubles partners to pair up at first doubles for a hard-fought 8-5 loss.

Thomsen was the lone Wolverine to take a set in singles competition, winning her first set at third singles 6-4 before dropping the second 6-2 and falling 10-3 in a super-tiebreaker. Bradley took her second set at fourth singles to a tiebreaker, falling 6-3, 7-6, while Lagerquist fell 6-2, 6-1 at second singles.

The Wolverines close the 2015-16 season 9-11 overall. Grove City will lose Lagerquist and Thomsen to graduation.
