GCC Fares Well At ITAs GENEVA, NY, September 24, 1999--The Lady Wolverines advanced two singles players and two doubles teams into the "Sweet Sixteen" at the Intercollegiate Tennis Regional Tournament, hosted by William Smith College in Geneva, NY. Top-seeded Alyssa Bradford advanced with wins over Nazareth (6-2, 6-0) and St. Lawrence (6-1, 6-1), as did seventh-seeded Wendy Carlson (Hanover, PA/Southwestern), who knocked off opponents from RIT (6-0, 6-0) and Nazareth (6-1, 6-2). Bradford teamed with Vicki Hull (Somis, CA/La Reina) to defeat doubles teams from Allegheny (8-1) and William Smith (8-2), while Carlson and Erika Hauge (Chardon, OH/Chardon) also advanced with wins over St. Lawrence (8-6) and Rochester (8-4). Hull won her first singles match over Hamilton (7-5, 7-6 (8-6)), before falling to Cortland State (0-6, 2-6). Lisa Oriti (Brecksville, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) won her opener over Cortland (6-2, 6-1), then lost to Union (1-6, 1-6). Hauge defeated Oneonta (6-1, 6-2) but dropped out with a loss to RIT (0-6, 1-6). Oriti and Julie Barber (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) lost their opening doubles match to a pair from Union (1-8). |
