GCC Freshman Takes Runner-Up at ITAs
September 27, 1998--Grove City College freshman Alyssa Bradford (Akron,
OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) advanced to the final round of the Intercollegiate Tennis
Association's Regional Tournament in Geneva, NY Sunday with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-4
win over defending ITA Regional champion Keri Mills, a senior from Carnegie Mellon
University. Bradford settled for second place in the 64-player draw with a
straight-set 1-6, 3-6 loss to the University of Rochester's Michelle Mazza in the
championship.
Bradford, who entered the tournament 8-0 at first singles, is now 2-0 against Mills in
1998, having defeated her in the Lady Wolverines' season opener on September 3 in straight
sets, 7-5, 6-0.
Bradford teamed with junior Victoria Hull (Somis, CA/La Reina) in the ITA doubles
tournament and reached the semifinals before falling to Carnegie Mellon, 3-6, 5-7.
Lady Wolverine sophomore Wendy Carlson (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) advanced to the sweet
sixteen before losing to Union College, 3-6, 7-5, 5-7.
The event was hosted by William Smith College.
Grove City resumes regular-season play Tuesday, September 29, at Penn State-Behrend
College.
