Grove City Wins 12th Straight PAC Title

October 10, 1998--The Grove City College women's tennis team made it an even dozen Saturday, capturing its 12th straight Presidents' Athletic Conference title at Thiel College in Greenville, PA.

The Lady Wolverines claimed the crown with 43 points, winning all six singles championships and two of the three double flights.  Bethany took second with 21 points, followed by Washington & Jefferson with 17 points, Thiel with nine points and Waynesburg with zero points.

Grove City filled the PAC First Team in singles with freshman Alyssa Bradford (Akron, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) taking MVP honors with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at first singles.   Sophomore Wendy Carlson (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) won at #2 (6-0, 6-1), junior Victoria Hull (Somis, CA/La Reina) took #3 (6-0, 6-0), junior Krissy Bedillion (Hickory, PA/Fort Cherry) swept #4 (6-0, 6-0), junior Kelly Bailey won at #5 (6-4, 6-2) and sophomore Lisa Evans (Butler, PA/Butler) prevailed at #6 (6-2, 6-4).

In doubles, Bradford and Hull won at #1 (6-1, 6-3) and Carlson and Bedillion cruised at  #2 (6-0, 6-1).  Bailey and junior Kara Jo Hoisington (Dimondale, MI/Waverly) lost a thriller at #3 in three games (7-5, 5-7, 7-5).

Grove City's seventh-year head coach Cathy Jacobs was named Coach of the Year.  She led the Lady Wolverines to an 11-2 record in the regular season, including a 5-0 mark against Division II opponents.
