Lady Wolverines fare well at Early Bird Invitational
CLARION, Pa. -- Three Grove City College athletes earned individual victories Saturday as the Grove City College women's track and field team opened the 2003 season at Clarion University's unscored Early Bird Invitational.
Freshman Elisa Pedersen (Santa Rosa, Calif./Montgomery) won both the 3000 steeplechase (12:14.25) and the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:51. Junior jumper Sally Lewis (Rochester, Pa./Freedom) grabbed top honors at the eight-team event in the triple jump, reaching 35 feet, 4 inches.
Meanwhile, sophomore Christine Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) earned first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.53 seconds. Rummel also finished second in the 400 hurdles (73.70) and third in the long jump at 15 feet, 11 1/2 inches. Lewis claimed second in the long jump at 16-4 1/2.
Senior Jordyn Taylor (Stow, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) finished second in both the 100 hurdles (17.36) and 200 dash (29.84). Taylor also took third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.37. Sophomore Theresa Miller (Landisville, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) placed third in the steeplechase with a 12:54.92 and third in the 5000, posting a time of 21:07.
Freshman Hannah Colian (Salem, Ohio/Salem) took third in the shot put with a heave of 31-9 1/2 while freshman Michelle Borza (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) finished fourth in the 400 hurdles in 75.70 seconds. Sophomore Christine Bare (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) took fifth in the 5000 with a 21:47 while sophomore Katherine Muse (Akron, Pa./Ephrata) finished eighth in the 3000, but tops among Division III runners at the event.
