Lady Wolverines win 5th consecutive PAC crown
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- For the fifth straight season, the Grove City College women's track and field team captured the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship Saturday at Westminster College's Harold Burry Stadium.
Junior Sally Lewis (Rochester, Pa./Freedom) earned conference MVP honors with three individual victories. For the day, Lewis earned 38 of Grove City's 232 team points.
Lewis won the 100-meter dash (13.12), triple jump (37 feet, 8 1/2 inches) and long jump (17-7 1/2). She also finishes second in the 200 with a time of 27.29 seconds.
Freshman Elisa Pedersen (Santa Rosa, Calif./Montgomery) won the 3000 steeplechase in a time of 12:56.70 and the 5000 (20:24.76).
Sophomore Christine Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) swept the hurdle events, winning the 100 high hurdles in 16.43 and taking top honors in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:07.65. Rummel also finished second to Lewis in the triple (35-4) and long (16-5) jumps.
Sophomore Christine Bare (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) earned first in the 10,000 (44.42.35), one spot ahead of freshman teammate Megan Skarada (Clarion, Pa./Clarion-Limestone). Skarada also took fourth in the 5000 while Bare was fifth in the 5000.
Sophomore Theresa Miller (Landisville, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) took second in both the steeplechase and 5000. Senior Jordyn Taylor (Stow, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) earned runner-up honors in both the 100 hurdles (16.70) and 100 dash (13.30). Freshman Michelle Borza (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) took second in the pole vault and grabbed third in the high jump and 400 hurdles while classmate Lauren Bigley (Washington, Pa./Trinity) completed a 1-2-3 sweep in the high hurdles by finishing third.
Senior Joy Holcomb (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) threw the discus 103-4 1/2 to take third place while sophomore Katherine Muse (Akron, Pa./Ephrata) placed third in both the 800 and 1500. Freshman Hannah Colian (Salem, Ohio/Salem) took third in the shot put with a mark of 34 feet and also claimed fifth in the discus. Holcomb was also fifth in the shot put.
Senior April Dunfee (Tucson, Ariz./University) finished fifth in both the 800 and 1500 while freshman Beth Mohr (Grove City, Pa./Homeschooled) placed fifth in the 400 and sixth in the 200.
Westminster took second with 159 points, Thiel finished third (125) and Bethany placed fourth (49).
