Grove City hosts Parents' Day meet

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team concluded the 2004 regular season Saturday afternoon with the annual Grove City Parents' Day Invitational at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Grove City senior Sally Lewis (Rochester, Pa./Freedom) and junior Christine Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) each earned individual victories in the unscored meet, which included 12 other schools. Lewis won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 10 inches while Rummel ran the 400 hurdles in a meet-best 66.77 seconds. 

Lewis also took second in the triple jump with a leap of 36-4 1/2 while freshman Cara Pierce (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Canton Central) finished third in the steeplechase with a time of 12:33. Rummel chalked up a pair of fifth-place finishes, taking fifth in both the 100 high hurdles (16.57) and triple jump (34-1).  

Freshman Ashley Metcalfe (York, Maine/Portsmouth Christian, N.H.) cleared 4-10 to finish fourth in the high jump. 

Freshman Michelle Mohr (Grove City, Pa./Homeschooled) took fifth in the steeplechase (13:27) while sophomore Michelle Borza (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) placed sixth in the pole vault (8-6). Sophomore Lauren Bigley (Washington, Pa./Trinity) took sixth in the high hurdles with a time of 16.66 seconds.  

Several Grove City athletes will compete in the ECAC Championships in Williamstown, Mass. May 14-15.
