Wolverines compete at IUP Open

INDIANA, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team competed in the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Open Saturday afternoon.

Senior Erin Claxton (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) helped lead Grove City with a third-place finish in the 5000, posting a time of 18 minutes, 22.76 seconds. Senior Christine Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) took fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:11.50) and also took 12th in the 100 high hurdles (17.06).

Sophomore Cara Pierce (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Canton Central) took seventh in the 5000 (19:58.91) while sophomore Sarah Bray (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) finished seventh in the javelin with a throw of 110 feet, 8 inches. Bray also placed 11th in the discus with a mark of 112-3 3/4.

Freshman Amanda Hewitt (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) took 10th in the 1500 (5:11.72), two places ahead of freshman Brittany Croft (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield). Croft posted a time of 5:13.26.

Grove City is aiming for its seventh consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference championship this Saturday at Washington and Jefferson College's Cameron Stadium.
