Grove City women take 2nd at Geneva Invitational

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team placed second at Geneva College's Merriman/Butler Invitational Friday afternoon with 124 team points. NCAA Division I member Robert Morris won the team title with 186 points. Geneva (112), Walsh (34) and Duquesne (14).

Two Grove City relay teams earned victories Friday. Grove City's 1600-meter relay team of sophomore Brittany Moore (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), sophomore Mary Majchrowicz (Sunnyvale, Calif./The King's Academy), sophomore Samantha Gathers (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) and sophomore Kate Bender (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) closed the meet with a victorious time of 4 minutes, 18.30 seconds.

Grove City's 3200-meter relay squad of Bender, sophomore Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham), sophomore Brittany Croft (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) and sophomore Amanda Hewitt (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) won with a time of 9:53.33. Carter also won the 5000 in 18:50.04.

Sophomore Alix Flowers (Lynchburg, Va./New Covenant) finished second in the 1500 (5:08.27) while junior Ashley Metcalfe (York Harbor, Maine/Portsmouth Christian, N.H.) cleared 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump to earn second.

Freshman Katie Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 30-11. Sophomore Julia French (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) took third in the triple jump (30-8 1/4). Freshman Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) finished third in the 5000 in 19:33.32.

Grove City will compete in the Slippery Rock University Invitational next Saturday, April 15.
