Grove City 2nd at PAC Championships

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team placed second at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at Westminster College's Memorial Field. Washington and Jefferson accumulated 163 team points to end Grove City's seven-year run as PAC champion.

Grove City earned 126 points while Westminster took third with 121. Thiel (104), Waynesburg (39) and Bethany (32) rounded out the field.

Three Grove City athletes earned individual titles Saturday. Freshman Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) won both the 1500 and 5000 Saturday. She won the 1500 in a time of 4 minutes, 49.49 seconds, then won the 5000 in 18:56.26.

Freshman Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) won the 10,000 in 41:07.66 while junior Sarah Bray (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) won the javelin with a throw of 114 feet, 7 inches. Seward also took second in the 5000 (19:08.11) while Carter crossed second in the 800 (2:24.89). Freshman Megan Fellows (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) took second in the discus with a throw of 115-6.

Sophomore Mary Majchrowicz (Sunnyvale, Calif./The King's Academy) took third in both the 200 (27.04) and the 400 (59.31). Sophomore Alix Flowers (Lynchburg, Va./New Covenant) finished third in the 1500 (4:58.27) while freshman Elizabeth Clymer (Concord, N.H./Concord) took third in the steeplechase (13:09.45). Freshman Catherine Martin (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) finished third in the 10,000 with a time of 47:56.44.

Also for the Wolverines, sophomore Kate Bender (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) finished fourth in the 800 (2:25.37) while sophomore Brittany Croft (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) was fourth in the 1500 (4:59.39). Freshman Sarah Hirsh (Hanover, Pa./South Western) took fourth in the steeplechase (13:13.22).
